What’s economy.id lite?

As you know, economic data is often hard to obtain for local government areas. Economic data, such as GDP, is calculated by the Australian Bureau of Statistics only for the country and for each State. It is not calculated for regions or LGAs. So the only way to get a realistic measure of local economic activity is to undertake detailed economic modelling.

We have teamed with the highly respected economists at NIEIR (National Institute for Economic and Industry Research) to provide Councils with the best local economic data we could find. NIEIR is well known in the sector for preparing the comprehensive “State of the regions” report each year for the ALGA.

Economy.id lite is a tool which uses some of the same, modelled data as is used in the full version of economy.id.

Economy.id lite enables you to see all of the navigation for the full economy.id site, but only some of the pages will be active. The full detail is available in the full economy.id tool.

In your economy.id lite site, you’ll be able to see, at a local council level:

· Local gross product
· Number of local jobs (which will be much higher than the Census data, which often undercounts employment by as much as 20%)
· Employment by industry sector
· Number of local businesses
· Value of building approvals
· Resident’s disposable income
· Where workers travel from to work in your council area
· Where your residents travel to work
· Key statistics of the workforce
· Skills available locally
· Local market characteristics

Plus there’s a direct link to the .id National Economic Indicators so you can see how your economy is performing in comparison to every local government area in Australia.

What does this mean to existing .id clients?

You can start using your economy.id lite site now. The link to economy.id lite has already been added to your profile, at the top of the page:
