    Hi Rebecca,

I think what you are after is the ABS Time Use study http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/mf/4153.0

This study uses a diary methodology which is much more accurate than the categories collected by the Census. It also collects primary and secondary activites, so you can see that, for example, when fathers take care of children they are likely to be doing only that, but the time mothers spend with their children they are more likely to be performing another activity at the same time- preparing food, or driving, for example.

There are a great many research publications using this data, but the emphasis is typically not on the dollar value of tasks. Sociologists like Lyn Craig and Michael Bittman are interested in the power dynamics in play, and Janeen Baxter analyses why the divisions we see may be occurring.

    Cheers,

    Paula Wright.
